My Power Decade

A Story of Mindset, Weight Loss, Muscle Gain, and Reclaiming Health After Age Sixty

This is a fascinating, story of an adventuresome woman who overcame a difficult childhood and juvenile diabetes complications where she wasn’t going to live past 40. She received an experimental double organ transplant which cured the diabetes at 34, but a triple cardiac bypass and thyroidectomy were to follow. Despite this, at age 62 she transformed her body, mind, and spirit through fitness. Weight loss was a side effect of her goal: optimal health. Switching this mindset from weight loss to health was key. Her energy levels were so high, and her physique was so transformed, she decided to compete in a bodybuilding contest at age 64.

Meet the Author, Julia Linn

Julia Linn, like so many women, spent years putting her value on the bathroom scale. She tried every diet she could only to fail and slip back to an unhealthy weight after months of restrictive eating. Eventually, she gave up but still “ate healthy” and walked 3 miles a day. When menopause hit, her body took on a persona and shape she didn’t recognize. Bloated middle, sluggishness, brain fog, and a feeling of being over the hill once and for all. At age 62 her special anniversary was coming up in two years: the miracle double organ transplant that extended her life way beyond doctor’s expectations. At age 64, she would have been gifted thirty years of life by her organ donor, Gina, who died in a car accident. This became her “why.” Why get fit? The misdirected goal of “losing weight’ was over. She began to love her body just the way it was. A mindset shift that made all the difference. Losing weight was a shallow goal born out of body disgust. This time the desire to get healthy was born out of gratitude for the gift of life. She says menopausal women are in their Power Decades – wise, experienced, mentally strong but often last on the list for self-care. Her story is inspiring and aimed directly at women ages 40 to 70, to show that their body is not broken, unworthy or over the hill. No, it’s just changed and is asking for a different approach to mindset, nutrition and exercise. Anyone can do this at any age – get fit, feel great, be healthy, go from feeling over the hill to being on top of the hill. Many post-menopausal women think it’s not possible, Julia proves that it is.

Faith, Grit, and Mindset

(5/5)
I absolutely loved this book! I have been following Julia on IG for a while and was patiently waiting for the release of this book. This is the story of a woman who has been through some "stuff" in life, to put it mildly (family, health, and other challenges). If I could go back and hug Julia's childhood self, I would! The adage of "tough times don't last, tough people do" applies to Julia, wholeheartedly. What she went through and endured could have caused the best of us to become bitter and / or give up. However, through her positive mindset, personal spiritual and energy work, and determination - she defeated the odds and is living her best "Queenager" life - and sharing her strategies with others. She tells her story - with a "flashback" style throughout - which helps you to understand her experiences throughout life (loss of family, severe health issues, etc.), how they are all interconnected, and how it has brought her to where she is today... In addition to her story, each chapter ends with a reflection section and several journaling prompts. While she tells her story, she uses each chapter to help the reader engage themselves in their own personal exploration, development, and improvement. This book is as much about the reader as it is about the author. A wonderful, inspiring read! - E. Almanza

Beauty from ashes

Julia’s life story in this book is absolutely riveting! I couldn’t put the book down! The physical, mental and emotional trauma she has overcome to reach the state of health she is in today is just astounding, yet she stands in forgiveness and love. She is aspirational and inspirational at the same time. This book is a must read! - Mariella

Ultra-strong book

(5/5)
After following Julia Linn on IG for a while now and having witnessed her fitness and mindset progress, so to speak, I had to download her book to my Kindle on the first day of publication and start reading. With her life story marked by many illnesses, she wants to inspire and motivate women over the age of fifty to regain or improve their health and fitness through exercise and good nutrition. I was deeply moved by this book. Julia Linn is an exceptional woman. - Viktória Urbán

Engaging and Inspirational

I am not an avid reader. It’s not easy for me to finish reading a book that is not an audible. I enjoyed and completely read “My Power Decade” within several days (which is unusual for me and would have been sooner if time was available). I’ve been following Julia on Instagram and always love how generous she is with her inspiration, knowledge, passion and compassion. This book reveals everything Julia has gone through and her incredible outcome. Julia truly loves helping others who seek guidance on becoming healthier, both mentally (mindset) and physically (fitness and nutrition). It’s her calling. - Angel Reviews
